What is Sjögren's syndrome - more info
Chronic dryness or dryness that lasts a long time is a common symptom of the autoimmune disease, Sjögren's syndrome. In fact, up to four million Americans suffer from Sjögren's syndrome.

Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease that prevents the body's exocrine (moisture-producing) glands from producing enough moisture, causing primarily severe dry mouth and dry eyes.

My Dry Mouth...What Does It Mean?

There are many reasons why you may be experiencing dry mouth. Certain medications, diseases and treatments may result in dryness symptoms. Examples include medications for depression, allergies and high blood pressure; diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Sjögren's syndrome; as well as radiation therapy or complications following bone marrow transplants.

If you have dry mouth most or all of the time, then it is important to find out why. You may want to consult a health care professional to discuss your symptoms.
